The materials used in the modern design are environment-friendly. Modern design serves to decorate the environment as it appeals the eye. Creativity and innovation of the modernist have played a major role in the field of modern design.[1] Modern design items are those items that have been improvised from the previous existing items; however, compared to the previous items, they occupy a small space and are more efficient. Modernist comes up with this item depending on their function. Examples of these items include the lampshades, layout of the furniture, buildings that serve to save on space in organizations and various offices inclusive of homes. (Fallahnezhad, 2017) Modern design items play a major role. The fact that they are being improvised from the previously existing things suggests that they are more efficient in their workability, for instance, shelves designed on buildings walls have saved on space in organizations. A lampshade spreads light to a larger area in the past the lampshades were used to direct light to the dark street below. In the 17th century, the Parisian greatly used the lampshades not only in directing light but also diffusing it. In 1879 the first bulb was made, and the lampshades were made of paper whose primary function was to ensure uniform distribution of light throughout the room. In 1837-1901 Victorias lampshades came into existence. (Fallahnezhad, 2017) At around 19th-century Louis comfort tiffany produced lampshades made of glass with patterns. Its ability to please the eye made it popular even to date. Tiffany also introduced picturesque lampshades that is now popular in the world. With the motive of people trying to create a welcoming and homely atmosphere, lampshades as a decorative accessory came to its existence today. Modern lampshades can be classified according to shape, a material used and filters. There are different types of modern lampshades management. Lampshades have helped in decreasing the number of bulbs in-house, therefore, being economical. Most lampshades require spider fitters. There are other types of fitters, for example, the clip on fitters. They are typically for chandeliers; clip fitter is fitted into the lampshade and clips are over the base bulbs.[2] There is a comparison between the modern lamps and the past candle lighting because there is minimal glare and glow. After Thomas Edison invented the bulb, we have admired the wonder of the bulb. Therefore, a lampshade is one of the modern design items because we have evolved from using the candle in the past ages, then the bulbs without the hanging shades and lastly the lampshades to protect the bulb and help illuminate a very large geographical area.[3] We try to embrace this diversity over the years by trying to preserve the lampshades using many various methods, for example, using the vacuum or a piece of cloth for cleaning or removing the dust around it and being able to control the amount of heat inside the shade because that destroys it.
